Oral history interview with Mary Emma Bleidt [sound recording], 1976 July 9

Mary Emma Bleidt was born in 1909 at Golden Pond, Kentucky. Her childhood years were spent at Golden Pond where she attended the local public schools. After graduating high school she attended Bethel College in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and later Murray State Normal School. She taught school in the Land Between the Lakes region from the 1920s and 1930s. She was appointed postmaster of Golden Pond in 1937 and held that position until 1942. Bleidt's grandfather, William Nilson, owned and operated Wilson's General Store at Golden Pond which remained in business until 1946.
